Forevermore

Forevermore
This is a poem that I had to write as a litterary assignment my sophomore year. I brushed this up my Senior year so that if the need arose, I could just turn this in, instead of having to write one from scratch. Tell me what you think about it. Oh, and if you can understand my symbolism, you'll find that this poem is rather dark, and also why my main character on just about everything is named Kronos.
Forevermore
I
The essence of time is forever flowing,
Streaming ethereal spirits through its doors.
For all the memories that its stowing,
shall be lost to us forevermore.
The reaper travels in his mowing,
Newborn souls await departure in its moors.
The vault of souls is always growing.
None can escape its store.
Above the liquid stream lies the winds of time; forever blowing.
It has witnessed vile acts of villainy, and the churning tides of war,
The rise of saints with hearts forever glowing,
To atrocities of gore...
For those who wish to challenge the sacred flowing,
Or for those who search for where the rift is tore,
Let this warning detour them, for they do not know where they're going,
And their souls shall be lost forevermore.
II
At the depths of time lie shadows past,
An eternity of memories lost to all of man.
Like a monolith destroyed by an explosive blast
Only to be reduced back to its essence of stone and sand.
Our trip through time is swift and fast.
Our existence is short in regards to times great span.
Who knows but time. What or who shall last,
Who shall live and who shall die and rejoin their clan.
History shows us but a hollow cast,
Of what was true but exaggerated by the minds of men.
This is the nature of the past.
The truth lies in not where; but when...
For those who wish to challenge the sacred flowing,
For those who search for where the rift is tore,
Let this warning detour them, for they do not know where they're going,
And their souls shall be lost forevermore.
III
The present is the only point we mortals see.
It is here until death we stay.
There is no other way for us to leave,
Save only for God to do as he may.
From all the great ages, from sea to shining sea,
there are those who have wished to rewrite but only a day.
People both great and poor sought out the gods with great plea,
Begging for the control of time, so that they may dictate their own way...
The realm of the present is where we are to be.
There is no exit, save death, so we must stay.
Eventually, one may come and unlock the great gates with his key,
But until then, the toll for passage is death, which we all must pay.
For those who wish to challenge the sacred flowing,
Or for those who search for where the rift is tore,
Let this warning detour them, for they do not know where they're going,
And their souls shall be lost forever more.
IV
What lies behind this great gate?
What epic journey lies in store?
What fell beast sleeps in wait,
Behind the forbidden door?
The anticipation of what's to come is great,
With mystery as dark as the Erebus shore.
Know this now, you cannot tempt fate,
For it shall rule you and guide you forevermore.
For those who wish to challenge the sacred flowing,
Or for those who search for where the rift is tore,
Let this warning detour them, for they do not know we're they're going,
And their souls shall be lost forevermore.
