Outlaw star
I would like to introduce you to one of the best animated series of all time. Of course I'm talking about Outlaw star.
Outlaw Star is a Space Western set in the fictional "Towards Stars Era" universe. During its past, an asteroid containing a material known as "dragonite" crashed in the Arashon desert in northern China. Scientists found that the dragonite contained properties related to "ether", an energy source that would allow spacecraft to travel faster than the speed of light, and thus traverse large distances of the universe in a short time. As new colonies were formed throughout the vast reaches of outer space, pirates, assassins, and outlaws began to threaten humanity's new frontier. To create order, the Earth Federation established four empires: USSA, Einhorn, Piotr, and Tin'Pa.
However, internal power struggles within the factions and conflicts amongst one another become abundant, leading to inevitable lawlessness. The manga's storyline starts shortly after an infamous outlaw named "Hot Ice" Hilda flees from the Kei Pirates, a branch of the Tin'Pa. Hilda has stolen from them a highly-advanced prototype ship dubbed the XGP15A-II and a suitcase containing a bio-android called Melfina, the only being capable of interfacing with the ship.
Outlaw Star opens on the backwater planet Sentinel III, on which the protagonist Gene Starwind and his 11-year-old business associate James "Jim" Hawking run a small jack-of-all-trades business.
After the two take a job as bodyguards for a disguised Hilda and engage in a brief skirmish with the Kei Pirates, Gene and Jim find themselves the owners of the XGP15A-II (A spaceship, which they nicknamed the "Outlaw Star") and the caretakers of Melfina. Hilda reveals that the ship's true purpose is to locate the "Galactic Leyline" a place which popular claims say is a holder of immense treasure, knowledge, and power. Throughout the course of the series, the crew grows to include the kimono-garbed contract killer "Twilight" Suzuka and Aisha Clanclan of the Ctarl-Ctarl, a race of cat-like aliens.

Re: Outlaw star
Wow, this brings back memories. I haven't seen Outlaw Star for years. I remember watching it on like Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, I think, years ago. I especially liked the ending theme.

Re: Outlaw star
Cowboy bebop was rather good too, never seen Angel Links though (spin-off to Outlaw star). I discovered outlaw star this year, a friend introduced me to it. By the time it was aired on TV I was rather young
And I'll add the ending theme to this topic as well

Re: Outlaw star
I haven't seen Outlaw Star (sounds like something I would like though). Cowboy Bebop is probably my favorite anime of all-time. That or Dragon Ball Z, but I think I'd have to give the edge to Bebop.

Re: Outlaw star
Then you just have to watch it. The very same producers from Cowboy bebop made Outlaw star. They also created Angel Link (which is a spin-off serie to outlaw star). It's a really good animated serie.

Re: Outlaw star
I haven't been watching much anime recently because of other stuff I've wanted to do. I've got plenty of anime I want to watch and manga I want to read though.

Re: Outlaw star
They're apparently making a Cowboy Bebop movie as well, using Keanu Reeves as Spike. I understand they had to cut back from the original script because it would have cost half a billion dollars to make, so let's hope it's good and true to the anime.

Re: Outlaw star
Wow, really? I knew a live-action movie based on the anime was in production, but I had no idea the budget was that much. Hopefully they do a good job because other live-action movies based on animes/cartoons haven't fared too well (see: Dragon Ball Evolution and The Last Airbender).

Re: Outlaw star
Sounds nice. Hope it will be good and as you said true to the anime. I'd like a continuation on outlaw star as well, so many unresolved things, lol

A movie would justify the series not having ova.....
