PSO now has Wii support thanks to tueidj and his hard work!

Here's his main topic page for it: http://gbatemp.net/topic/330554-devolution-public-release/

Thanks again tueidj for your great work into this!

Nice, but will it work in 480p? That would be epic. Otherwise my hunt for a progressive scan cable for GC continues.

Sure, 480p mode works if you've got a wii component cable, a US copy of the game and you boot the game while holding B (just like on a real gamecube). Last night I was also experimenting with forced 16:9 mode just to see how it looked; it was fine for the most part but the HUD was still at the edges of the 4:3 viewport (so it was indented from the screen edges) and the "motion blur" effect used in cut scenes (like the ones shown at the start of boss fights) doesn't work properly. It's not something I'll look into further but might include as an option at a later time just so people don't have to put up with malproportioned characters on their widescreen TVs.

Alrighty then, my hunt still continues, but i will definitely give PSO a try on 480p. Noticed the holding down B worked when my bro bought another copy of Tony Hawk Underground, so i thought it was worth giving it a shot on my other games.

Thanks for the info & your hard work tueidj.

Fired up my capture box today to get some examples of the widescreen hack. These images may be too wide to be displayed properly within the forum post, might need to right click->view image to view them properly.

Here's what GC/Wii PSO normally looks like, in regular 4:3 as it was designed to be seen:
Wii Support Pso_orig

Here is the same image resized to show what you get if you play on a widescreen (16:9) tv, without turning on the "letterbox" or similarly named tv option that adds black bars to the sides of the image:
Wii Support Pso_169

This is what the widescreen hack currently does:
Wii Support Pso_wide
You can see it's not perfect; the HUD is still in the same position instead of at the edges because it's drawn relative to the center of the screen, the minimap contents are actually in the correct position but the map background is not. But the nice part is the extra scene rendering at the sides and everything having the correct proportions.

When I get some time,

I wonder if I could load a ISO with the wode of if I need to connect my usb to the wii its self.

I will look in to it more when N comes back. Is the BBA emulation even there yet?

I know its coming but., hell Now would be perfect, plus we could get pso ep3 going faster even.

Homeland any one? I know there is a translation project on home land at work. Just now if this emulator can conect to the net then the wii will soon have 99% cube compatibility besides the game boy player and real bba and real modem.

Why am I just now making this a sticky? 0.o

Anyways, those images do look pretty great. I would love to be able to play PSO in HD. I hate having to play PSO in aspect ratio as opposed to using the full width of my T.V. Graphics lag always gets me when I switch it into widescreen mode. =P

The loader only runs games from ISO files, you'd need to connect the USB drive directly (and have an actual PSO disc in the drive for verification).

BBA emulation isn't done, but modem emulation is so PSO 1&2/3 can connect and in theory so can Homeland... I don't really know anything about that game except that it supports the modem.

The wode isn't 100% Razz It can't handle audio streaming, for example.
Even if it were, it's emulating the disc drive which Devolution doesn't use to run the game - it's only used for one time verification of the .iso file, which gets loaded from USB HDD or SD card.

You have to either send w over a USB gecko or recompile the sample loader with the widescreen option forced on, it's not a published option (for obvious reasons).

The latest Devolution build (http://www.tueidj.net/gc_devo.zip) adds support for gamecube keyboard emulation using a USB keyboard. Just plug one in and press ctrl-alt-F12 after launching PSO to trigger a "keyboard inserted" event, after that it should respond just like a regular GC keyboard. Note that it is emulated as being attached to port 4, so any real controller plugged into that port won't be usable.

I'm having trouble with my copy of PSO Ep1&2 on Devolution. I ripped the game (twice exactly the same) and load it from the Devolution loader. From there I get the 5 blink confirmation and then it just reboots itself constantly. I was told to ask here by GBATemp, so hopefully you guys can assist me. Razz

Something is wrong with your .ISO file, it doesn't match the disc.

I've done multiple rips straight off the disc from USB Loader GX. Any ideas on anything else I can rip with or anything?

This solved my problem! Game runs fine from the sample loader, but not from USB Loader GX for some reason (even though other games do) so I suppose its just a problem with GX or something. Thank you very much!
Hope to see you all online Very Happy

EDIT: Turns out others dont work anymore from there either. OH WELL.

Hey, tueidj I tried out that r188 of Devolution, my HDD fails to be mounted however when I use older revisions it mounts fine and flash drives work fine; it's just my hard drive, I found someone else that also has this problem.

A change log would be cool too. Wink
